Women Writer's Festival Returns to Etcetera Theatre with Diverse Lineup
The Etcetera Theatre, an award-winning fringe venue in the heart of Camden Town, is set to host the fourth Women Writer's Festival from February 27 to March 31. This annual event celebrates bold and exciting new theatre by women and female-identifying writers, showcasing both emerging and established voices from across the UK.
Historic Venue Hosts Contemporary Voices
The Etcetera Theatre has a rich history of launching careers, with legends like Alan Ayckbourn, Alan Bennett, Al Murray, Bill Bailey, and Russell Brand having premiered works there. Now, it continues this tradition by providing a platform for diverse female storytellers through the Women Writer's Festival.
Extensive Programme of 60 Solo Shows
The festival programme spans 60 solo shows across multiple formats:
- Original plays and staged readings
- Cabaret and spoken word performances
- Comedy shows and discussion panels
- Live custom poetry written on demand

Family-Friendly Programming
The festival includes special events for children, particularly Serena and the Little Blue Dog on February 28 at 3pm. This interactive storytelling hour for children aged three to eight is led by festival organizer Rosemary Clunie, centered on her Bloomsbury-published book that was shortlisted for The Week Junior Book Awards.
"My events stimulate the imagination and creativity of young voices to give them the confidence to tell their own stories," explains Clunie. "We investigate storytelling elements and create stories together during these workshops."
Growing Platform for Women's Writing
Launched in 2023 with funding from Arts Council England, the Women Writer's Festival has grown into a significant platform for new writing. Each year, the programme celebrates diversity, creativity, and the power of women's storytelling while championing voices that need to be heard.
The festival creates essential space for audiences to engage with new stories and perspectives, counteracting the increasing isolation and digitization of modern life. As Clunie emphasizes, "Live theatre, new writing and comedy should be cherished and supported, especially in our own grassroots community."
The festival invites both adults and children to participate, promising surprises, inspiration, laughter, and shared celebration throughout its month-long run at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden.
