Jimmy Carr Opens Up About His One Meal a Day Routine and Body Image Concerns
In a revealing interview on Katherine Ryan's podcast What's My Age Again?, comedian Jimmy Carr disclosed that he typically consumes just one meal per day, driven by a heightened awareness of his weight and a desire to maintain a trim physique. The 53-year-old entertainer spoke frankly about the pressures he imposes on himself regarding body image, shedding light on his daily habits and personal reflections.
A Day in the Life: Coffee, Water, and Evening Meals
Carr described his routine as largely consisting of black coffee and water throughout the day, with his first substantial meal often delayed until the evening. He admitted, 'I'm pretty body conscious as it is. I mean, I would say not like I think I've got an eating disorder, but I think I'm very conscious of weight, very conscious of staying sort of trim.' He acknowledged that this mindset might not be the healthiest, noting how conversations about body image have traditionally centered more on women than men.
Intermittent Fasting and Junk Food Indulgences
When questioned by Ryan about whether he practices intermittent fasting, Carr confirmed that his eating habits naturally align with this approach, as he tends to eat once daily. On the day of the podcast, he revealed his intake had been limited to black coffee and water, with plans to eat later that evening. Despite his disciplined routine, Carr confessed a weakness for fast food, particularly McDonald's, which he turns to while traveling. He explained, 'When travelling I love a McDonald's. I love them... Well, because their hygiene system is the same globally. So sometimes if you're somewhere, you don't know what the good restaurant is in this crazy Eastern European town you find yourself in... You go, well, I know McDonald's will be fine. I know I'll be fine.' He added philosophically, 'The poisons in the dose, I think with all of these things.'
Controversial Views on Drugs and Personal Maintenance
Elsewhere in the conversation, Carr shared his contentious opinions on marijuana, arguing that it can hinder performance and ambition in younger individuals. He humorously suggested it should be legal only for those aged 30 to 50, and mandatory after 50, joking about wealth redistribution. Reflecting on his own appearance, Carr has been transparent about undergoing various procedures, including a hair transplant, botox, and veneers. He likened himself to the Forth Bridge, constantly in need of upkeep, stating, 'Maintaining is the thing – I don't think there's anything you can do plastic surgery wise, or augmentation wise, that makes you look better, you can just stay the same, that's what you can hope for.' In a past interview with The Telegraph, he admitted to having a 'proper midlife crisis,' opting for multiple enhancements. Carr often uses self-deprecating humor regarding his surgeries, exchanging lighthearted banter with peers like Katherine Ryan and Amanda Holden.
