Abbie Chatfield on doomscrolling, aliens, and sound healing

Podcaster and TV host Abbie Chatfield, whose live show 'Abbie Chatfield Loves Men' is touring Australia, has revealed a range of personal anecdotes and insights in a recent interview. From an obsession with a tortoise named Jorge to a horrifying sound healing experience, Chatfield opened up about her life and habits.

Best Advice from Her Mother

Chatfield shared the best piece of advice she ever received, which came from her mother during a breakup. Her mother said, 'Oh, I feel so sorry for him,' referring to Chatfield's ex who treated her poorly. When Chatfield questioned this, her mother explained, 'Because he has to live in his head and you get to live in yours.' Chatfield noted that this advice helped her avoid resentment and take things less personally, adding, 'It stuck with me for the past decade.'

Favourite Men and Chaotic Show Moments

When asked about her favourite men, Chatfield listed her partner Adam Hyde, her dog, her uncle, Bad Bunny, Tarang Chawla, and Harrison James. She also recounted the most chaotic moment from her shows, which occurred during a segment called 'Nightmare Fuel' in Aotearoa. A woman shared a story about sleeping with a man who wore a wetsuit during sex, then peeled off a scab from his shin and ate it. Chatfield said, 'I lay on the floor of the stage and screamed.'

Procrastination and Sleep Habits

Chatfield admitted that she procrastinates by doomscrolling or cutting her cuticles, which she described as an anxiety thing. When she can't sleep, she often doomscrolls as well, but she has a subscription to National Geographic and keeps physical magazines by her bed. She mentioned becoming obsessed with a tortoise named Jorge after reading a five-page spread about him. 'It's all hopeful stories about someone revegetating a specific jasmine plant, or a turtle that's been taught how to exist in saltwater again,' she said.

Would You Rather: Ocean or Space?

Asked whether she would rather die at the bottom of the ocean or in space, Chatfield chose space, reasoning, 'At least the view would be nice. And it's a new experience for me. I've been in the ocean before.'

Screen Time and Lying

Chatfield estimated her daily screen time at a minimum of nine hours, which she confirmed after checking: nine hours and five minutes. She noted that her phone is often unlocked while listening to music, giving herself some grace. She also admitted to a recent lie, telling a woman who ran a sound healing session that it was 'life-changing' and 'amazing,' when in reality it gave her a near panic attack and made her want to vomit. 'Not her fault, I think I just wasn't in the right headspace,' Chatfield said.

Belief in Extraterrestrial Life

Chatfield expressed belief in extraterrestrial life, saying, 'I feel like it would be impossible for it not to exist.' However, she does not believe extraterrestrials have already reached Earth, as she thinks things would be 'very bad for us' and 'we'd know.'

The 'Abbie Chatfield Loves Men' national live tour kicks off in Thirroul, New South Wales, on 10 July.
