A prominent male star from the hit BBC programme Strictly Come Dancing has been arrested on suspicion of rape, according to a report from The Sun newspaper.
Details of the Arrest
The report states that the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in London on Monday, 13 October. The alleged incident is said to have taken place in Hertfordshire at some point during 2024. Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed the arrest, revealing that the man was subsequently released on police bail while the investigation continues.
A key detail from the report is that the alleged victim was not a contestant or a professional dancer associated with the Strictly Come Dancing show.
Official Statements and Ongoing Inquiry
In a statement provided to The Sun, Hertfordshire police said: “A man was released on police bail under investigation having been arrested in London on Monday 13 October on suspicion of rape. The allegations relate to an incident which happened in Hertfordshire during 2024.”
The force added that it would be inappropriate to comment further due to the sensitive nature of the allegations. When approached for comment, a BBC spokesperson declined to discuss the matter, stating: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”
A Second Strictly Scandal
This arrest marks the second time a male star from the popular dance competition has been embroiled in a serious police investigation this year. In a separate case from August, another unnamed male performer from the show, who is in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of rape and a further alleged offence described as “non-consensual intimate image abuse.”
These developments place the BBC and the Strictly Come Dancing production under significant scrutiny as the police carry out their inquiries.
