New Grand Tour trailer wins over sceptic with new hosts' chemistry

The full trailer for the revived Grand Tour on Amazon Prime has won over a viewer who previously had no interest in the motoring show, citing the awkwardly endearing chemistry between the three new hosts.

New hosts bring fresh dynamic

Francis Bourgeois, known for his viral trainspotting videos, joins YouTubers James Engelsman and Thomas Holland to front the reboot. The trailer shows the trio screaming with excitement behind the wheel, Francis bashing into an automatic barrier, James laying pelvis-first in a tiny boat on the ocean, and the presenters losing their cool meeting Formula One legend Jenson Button. Thomas fails to recover his composure, fumbling between a handshake and a fistbump.

In one dramatic moment, Thomas is behind the wheel with a helmet on, asking: 'Where's the jet?' A jet soars in front of his car, causing him to swear in shock. Another car jets high into the air after bouncing off what appears to be a parachute or blow-up device, with parts of the vehicle dropping off. The hosts also begin a dramatic countdown, yelling 'three, two, one', before Francis attempts to pull a tarp off a car – failing drastically when it gets caught.

Fans and original trio show support

Viewer reactions on YouTube have been positive. 'I can't believe I'm saying this but I think this has a chance to work,' PiwoszJr commented. 'Honestly, the fact that these guys have the blessing from Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond and May… I'm excited for it,' VintageMatthews remarked. 'It looks like they are genuinely having a great time and that there is real chemistry between them,' JA_520 shared.

Vojtechraiser160, who previously declared the new trio 'had no chance', admitted: 'But this really looks great. I'm gonna give it a try!' Another user, baar_nii, wrote: 'You three will prove all naysayers wrong! Go on guys!'

The original presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have given the new hosts their blessing and are set to make cameo appearances on the show following their departures.

Legacy and launch details

The original Top Gear and The Grand Tour, hosted by Clarkson, Hammond and May, were recognised by Guinness World Records as the most widely viewed factual TV programme in the world. The Grand Tour launched on Amazon Prime in November 2016, breaking streaming records on the platform. The new iteration, hosted by Bourgeois, Engelsman and Holland, returns on Thursday September 4 on Amazon Prime.
