The first series of Celebrity Traitors reaches its dramatic conclusion tonight, but fans are facing an unusual delay for the finale episode. With an all-star cast of 19 celebrities, the show has been filled with twists and turns, leading to a final five contestants battling for victory.
Do the Celebrities Get Paid to Appear?
While the standard version of The Traitors features contestants competing for a personal cash prize, the celebrity edition operates differently. According to a report from The Independent, journalist Marina Hyde claimed on the podcast The Rest is Entertainment that each celebrity received a flat fee for their participation.
Hyde stated, "They were able to pay everybody a blanket 40k fee, right? They’re paying them a 40k fee." This suggests each star was paid £40,000 to appear on the BBC show. It was also noted that podcast co-host Richard Osman previously turned down an offer to appear on Celebrity Traitors. The BBC itself did not comment on the salary reports when approached by The Independent.
Where Does the Prize Money Go?
The fundamental rules of the game remain the same for the final. The winner or winners will be left standing with the prize pot. If even a single Traitor remains undetected, they will take the entire sum. If only the Faithful are left, they will split the money between them.
The key difference in this spin-off is that the winnings are for charity. Unlike the regular series, the prize money of up to £100,000 will be donated to the charities chosen by the victorious contestant or contestants. It has not yet been publicly revealed which charities the celebrities have selected, with that information expected to emerge after the final is broadcast.
