Alan Carr Denies Strictly Come Dancing Host Rumours

Comedian and television personality Alan Carr has publicly addressed the swirling rumours suggesting he is in line to take over from Strictly Come Dancing's iconic hosts, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

The Rumour Mill Churns

Following his triumphant win on Celebrity Traitors, where his witty one-liners and deceptive gameplay captivated audiences, Carr's name was thrust into the spotlight as a potential successor for the coveted BBC One presenting role. The speculation intensified after the current hosts reportedly announced they would be stepping down at the end of the current series.

However, the 49-year-old funnyman has now poured cold water on these exciting prospects. In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Carr set the record straight, revealing that while he is flattered, no formal discussions have taken place.

Why Carr Says It's Not For Him

Carr humorously highlighted his own anxieties as the primary reason he wouldn't be a good fit for the live Saturday night show. "You saw how sweaty I was in the castle," he joked, referencing his time on Celebrity Traitors. "Imagine me live on a Saturday night coming down those stairs – people would slip in a pool of my sweat while doing the fandango."

He further clarified his position, stating, "Apparently my name is in the hat, which is an honour, but I haven’t spoken to anyone at the BBC. It’s lovely to be thought of, but it’s probably a bit too nerve-racking."

A Celebrity Traitors Victory

The conversation also turned to his recent victory on Celebrity Traitors, where Carr managed to outwit his fellow contestants, including Nick Mohammed and David Olosuga, to claim the prize. His win secured a substantial £87,500 donation for the charity Neuroblastoma UK.

Carr also addressed the initial scepticism surrounding the celebrity edition of the show, where some doubted the stars' ability to be properly treacherous. "I thought: 'Wait till you get a load of me!' I wanted to prove them wrong," he declared, noting that a pivotal moment was "when I murdered Celia."

He shared a hilarious anecdote about a moment with Stephen Fry that didn't make the final cut, where Fry referenced the Cambridge spies, leading Carr to react with his signature camp humour from across the table.

For now, fans of Alan Carr will have to enjoy his performances elsewhere, as he has firmly taken himself out of the running for the Strictly Come Dancing hosting job.
