London's 'Least Christmassy' Tree: Hoxton Hotel Unveils 9-Ft Futuristic Sculpture
London hotel unveils 'least Christmassy' 9ft Christmas tree

A hotel in East London is proudly claiming the title for the capital's 'least Christmassy Christmas tree' this festive season, having installed a starkly unconventional nine-foot sculpture in its foyer.

A Futuristic Take on Festive Tradition

The art'otel London Hoxton in Shoreditch has completely reimagined the traditional evergreen with an installation named 'MAS-X.3'. Designed by acclaimed artist Shane Keeling, the structure is a radical departure from baubles and tinsel, featuring an angular centre-piece constructed from shattered white porcelain toys.

These fragments have been carefully reconstructed and interwoven with strands of festive lights. An internal glow illuminates the broken pieces, while a luminous yellow orb sits at its peak, acting as a modern, abstract replacement for the traditional star.

Artist Aims to Spark Conversation and Confusion

Shane Keeling explained his intention was to provoke a reaction from visitors. "I want the artwork to surprise visitors," he said. "I want them to ask: what’s that? What does it mean? Am I supposed to get it?"

He described the piece as a "massive, unplayable toy" that is "serious about its silliness" and is designed to be pondered rather than touched. The tree is a natural fit for the design-led hotel, which incorporates contemporary art into its core identity.

Hotel Embraces Creative Controversy

Axel Krueger, the hotel's General Manager, stated that pushing creative boundaries at Christmas is now a tradition for the venue, which launched in 2024. "This year is no different," he said. "Collaborating with Shane Keeling to create our Christmas tree promises to engage our guests and spark conversation across London."

The eye-catching and controversial tree is now on display in the hotel's upper foyer, where it will remain throughout the festive period, welcoming both guests and curious passers-by in Shoreditch.
