Andaz Lisbon, a new hotel by Hyatt built on the foundations of a historic bank, has opened in the Portuguese capital, offering a vibrant design and local-focused amenities. The hotel caters to both tourists and locals, with a relaxed vibe for after-work drinks and dinners.
Location and First Impressions
Situated a 40-minute drive from the airport, the hotel is steps from the Rua Augusta Arch, visible from the rooftop bar. It's a 12-minute walk from São Jorge Castle and Mercado da Ribeira, and about a kilometre from the train station. The interior features hand-painted ceramic pieces by artist Sofia Cruz on the marble staircase, an 18th-century tile panel preserved from restoration, and a large painting by Francisca Coutinho in the Andaz Lounge. The restaurant Luzzi boasts an orange and green ceiling and a blue kaleidoscope floor.
Rooms and Pricing
Room categories range from standard twins to a premium loft and the Presidential Suite. A King bed deluxe room, bright with massive windows offering views of Rua Augusta, starts at around €300 a night (£258.50). The Presidential Suite costs around €1,900 a night (£1,637).
Food, Drink, and Facilities
The hotel features the Luzzi restaurant, rooftop bar Z Terrace, the Andaz Lounge with local street food snacks, and parking for 38 vehicles. Pets under 20kg are allowed. A spa and fitness centre are under construction, according to the hotel. Complimentary neighbourhood walking maps are available.
Signature Experiences
Guests can join a street art tour with renowned artist Miguel Brum, including the chance to create graffiti. Other experiences include fishing with a local, horse riding, exploring nightlife, visiting a Masonic palace, and learning about fashion heritage. The hotel also offers a street art tour, which the reviewer participated in, noting it was harder than it looks but enjoyable.
