Entrepreneurs' Livery Company to Host Scale-Up Showcase at London Stock Exchange

The City of London's Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs, the 112th livery company, is set to host a major investor showcase for scale-up firms at the London Stock Exchange. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between promising businesses and potential investors, fostering growth within the UK economy.

Connecting Investors with Promising Scale-Ups

Led by former Lord Mayor Alastair King, the livery company plans to connect more than 120 investors with 14 of the UK's most promising scale-up companies. The showcase will feature firms demonstrating significant commercial potential, typically evidenced by over £1 million in revenue, high-impact clients, or achievable capital targets.

Alastair King emphasized the importance of retaining innovative firms in the UK, stating, "We are sitting on a goldmine of innovation, but we're watching our gems get polished elsewhere. We need those firms which start here to stay here, to scale here, and to prosper here."

Series of Events Across Key Locations

In June, the group will host three events across London and Edinburgh, with a flagship session at the London Stock Exchange Group's Paternoster Square headquarters. Later in June, a defence-sector-focused event will take place at Mansion House, followed by a Scottish and regional showcase in Edinburgh in November.

Supporting Entrepreneurial Growth

The City of London Corporation is actively backing entrepreneurs through initiatives like Scale-Up Capital, launched by Alastair King last year. In its 2025 iteration, this programme raised over £120 million in funding for more than 40 growth-stage companies.

This builds on King's earlier efforts during his mayoralty, including the Mansion House Accord. This agreement, involving 17 major workplace pension providers, aims to inject at least 10 per cent of their default Defined Contribution assets into private markets by 2030, potentially boosting the UK economy by an estimated £50 billion.

Historical Context of the Livery Company

The Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs was established in 2014, initially as a guild before achieving full livery status in 2025. Livery companies, traditionally guilds granted a Royal Charter, play a significant role in the City's commercial and charitable activities, with this newest addition focusing on modern entrepreneurial ventures.
