Couple Sells Everything, Travels World on £30 a Day in Campervan
Couple Travels World on £30 a Day After Selling Everything

A British couple has abandoned traditional living to travel the world in a campervan, spending just £30 to £40 a day. Kath Cross, 49, and Stuart Hall, 48, sold their belongings and now explore Europe and Africa, covering over 25,000 miles.

From Rent to Road

Kath, a freelance copywriter from Cardiff, decided to downsize after her daughters left home in 2022. She sold her four-bedroom rental and moved into Stuart's Mercedes Sprinter campervan. 'It was taking every penny to keep the rental going,' she said. 'The more stuff I sold, the more free I felt.'

Budget Breakdown

The pair spends between £900 and £1,200 monthly, half on fuel. They cook in the van and limit paid activities. Their average daily cost is £30-£40, cheaper than Kath's former rent. Stuart works as a truck driver during brief UK returns to supplement income.

Epic Journeys

They've driven 3,000 miles to Denmark, 7,000 miles around Spain and Portugal, 2,000 miles to Scotland, and 8,000 miles to the Sahara. Currently in Montenegro, they plan to visit Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, and France. Highlights include the Sahara desert and the Atlas mountains in Morocco.

Sustainable Travel

Stuart emphasizes their low carbon footprint: 'My diesel van has less impact than a three-bed house.' They avoid buying new items, wear clothes until worn out, and minimize plastic use. Kath advises: 'You can't dream yourself into this life; you have to make intentional decisions.'

The couple shares their adventures on Instagram under Vanavigation, inspiring others to embrace a minimalist, travel-focused lifestyle.
