London Carpenter Abandons Trade as His Dog's Social Media Fame Outearns Him

In a remarkable turn of events that underscores the unpredictable power of social media, a London-based carpenter has made the life-altering decision to quit his profession after discovering that his French Bulldog was generating a higher income through online fame. Duncan Tout, aged 33, initially created an Instagram account for his dog TJ in 2021 merely as a digital scrapbook to preserve cherished memories.

From Hobby to High-Earning Canine Career

What began as a personal project swiftly transformed into a lucrative enterprise when a video of TJ swimming captured the internet's attention, going viral and attracting a flood of brand collaboration offers. Companies eagerly sought to feature the charming Frenchie in promotional content, capitalizing on the duo's popular comedy and travel videos that resonated with audiences worldwide.

The financial returns became so substantial that by January 2025, Duncan realized he could confidently leave his full-time carpentry position, which involved grueling hours and commutes into London, to manage TJ's burgeoning social media presence exclusively. Astonishingly, the dog's hourly earnings surpassed those of Duncan's skilled trade work.

A New Lifestyle of Freedom and Opportunities

Duncan, who hails from Kent but primarily worked in London, reflected on the dramatic shift: "I was working every hour under the sun, getting up at six in the morning, going into London and doing a day's work, and also playing semi-professional rugby. Now, I have a lot more freedom. Last year I got married and moved house, all while just doing dog stuff. It was getting to the point where I was thinking 'why am I going to work? It kind of doesn't make sense any more'."

Since transitioning to full-time dog manager, TJ has secured numerous brand partnerships, including a complimentary stay and gourmet meal at the luxurious Marriott Hotel in Regents Park, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris sponsored by P&O Ferries. Exciting prospects loom on the horizon, with potential travel to New York via a private jet charter company that specializes in canine flights.

Unaware Canine Celebrity with Massive Following

Despite amassing over 700,000 followers on TikTok and garnering tens of millions of views across platforms, TJ remains blissfully ignorant of his celebrity status. Duncan notes that passers-by frequently recognize the dog in public, often overlooking the owner entirely. "He has absolutely no idea and it's so, so funny," Duncan shared. "We went to 'Frenchie Fest' last year, which is a two-day French Bulldog festival in the New Forest. TJ went there, and it was just crazy. I was speaking to one person and stroking their dog, and the next minute we had 30 people around us. He has no idea all these people want to see him."

This story highlights the evolving landscape of income generation in the digital age, where a pet's social media appeal can unexpectedly redefine traditional career paths and offer newfound financial stability and lifestyle flexibility.
