McDonald's fans have taken to social media to express concerns that the iconic Big Tasty burger has changed, with many claiming it has become smaller. The fast food chain has now responded to these complaints, clarifying the timeline and reasons behind the modifications.
Customer Complaints Spark Debate
Following the return of the Big Tasty and Double Big Tasty to menus this week, customers on Reddit and TikTok voiced their disappointment. One user stated, 'The Big Tasty is no longer big anymore,' while others described the situation as a 'scandal' and felt 'robbed.' The burger had been absent since Christmas 2025, and its comeback prompted a wave of feedback.
McDonald's Official Response
McDonald's confirmed that the size of the Big Tasty was indeed changed, but emphasized that this adjustment was not recent. The change occurred in November 2025, coinciding with the introduction of the Double Big Tasty. The decision was based on customer feedback requesting 'more choice' in portion sizes. As a result, the standard Big Tasty was made slightly smaller, while the Double Big Tasty offers a larger option.
A spokesperson for McDonald's explained: 'We're always listening to our customers and evolving our menu to reflect their feedback. They told us they love their McDonald's favourites but want more choice on size, so we've delivered. Our iconic Big Tasty now comes in two sizes – first launched last November – and is perfect for every appetite, with the double now providing more Big Tasty than ever before!'
Pricing and Portion Details
The pricing reflects the size differences: the Big Tasty costs £6.29, while the Double Big Tasty is priced at £7.99. The Double is larger than the original Big Tasty ever was, offering an extra patty and an additional slice of cheese.
Other Changes to the Big Tasty
In addition to the size adjustment, the Big Tasty underwent several other modifications in 2025. For the first time since its launch in 2003, the patties were upgraded to a quarter pounder size. The emmental cheese was replaced with white cheddar, and square lettuce slices were swapped for shredded lettuce. A toasted quarter-pounder bun was also introduced to ensure everything fits properly.
Current Ingredients
The single Big Tasty now features a British and Irish beef quarter pounder patty, two slices of white cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, tomato, and Big Tasty sauce, all inside a toasted sesame-topped bun. The Double Big Tasty includes an extra patty and a third slice of cheese.
McDonald's reassures customers that regardless of size, the unmistakable Big Tasty flavour remains the same.
