Black Friday Shopping Trip Descends into Chaos After Shooting
Shoppers at a bustling California mall experienced a scene of 'complete chaos' after a man opened fire on one of the busiest retail days of the year, Black Friday. The incident, which occurred at the Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall in San Jose, left three people, including a 16-year-old girl, with gunshot wounds.
Panic and Evacuation as Shots Fired
The terrifying event unfolded at approximately 5pm on Friday, November 28, 2025. Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud pop before a stampede of people rushed for the exits. Shopper Daniel Chen recounted the moment the suspect began firing, stating, 'I was terrified. We were freaking out. Everyone was just screaming'. He added, 'It was complete chaos — it was crazy. I was making sure that the three of us were together and that we weren't leaving each other behind.'
Another witness, Shawn Kulasingham, reported hearing the loud noise and feeling the building shake as the panic ensued. The shopping centre was evacuated around an hour after the incident as authorities secured the area.
Isolated Incident with Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Local authorities were quick to reassure the public that this was not a random attack on shoppers. Sergeant Jorge Garibay clarified the situation, stating, 'This was not targeted at unsuspecting shoppers. Something occurred between two individuals that prompted the shooting.' The police have described the event as an 'isolated' incident.
The three victims, the teenage girl, a man, and a woman, were all promptly transported to a local hospital. In a relief to all involved, officials confirmed that all three are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
San Jose mayor, Matt Mahan, addressed the shocking event, saying, 'This is not the news I wanted to share with you this holiday weekend. My prayers are with these victims and I know our officers are doing everything they can to find the person responsible and hold them accountable.' An investigation is ongoing to locate the suspect.
