SNL UK Star Hopes to Finally Buy a House After Show Success

Paddy Young, a cast member on Sky’s Saturday Night Live UK, has expressed relief and hope that he may one day be able to purchase his own home, following the show’s successful debut. Speaking to Metro at the Bafta TV Awards, the comedian from Scarborough revealed that a conversation with Dermot O’Leary made him realize that homeownership might be within reach.

The O'Leary Effect

Young, who anchors the Weekend Update segment on SNL UK, said that being interviewed by the former X-Factor host brought home how far he has come. “We had an interview with Dermot O’Leary and I thought: ‘Surely I’ll own a house one day,’” he said. “Up until then I thought maybe not. It’s the O’Leary effect!” With the average house price in London standing at £674,086 according to Rightmove, the prospect of buying a property in the capital remains daunting for many. However, Young’s growing profile suggests that a deposit may no longer be a distant dream.

Life Changes for SNL UK Cast

When asked how SNL UK has changed their lives, Young initially said, “We don’t know right now how much. But it seems like maybe it might.” Co-star Emma Sidi offered a more mundane perspective: “We don’t really have any friends other than each other now, because we have no free time.” The cast endures grueling weeks of writing, rehearsing, and filming to produce a 75-minute live show each Saturday. “We have got no idea what we’ll do next week,” Young admitted. Sidi echoed, “Literally no idea.” Despite the stress, both described the experience as exhilarating.
