Franco Manca, the popular Neapolitan-style pizza chain, is closing 16 branches across the UK, with nine of them located in London. The chain, which first opened in Brixton in 2008, has faced financial difficulties in recent years, leading to a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) process approved by over 90 percent of voting creditors.
London Locations Closing
- Battersea
- Broadway Market
- Brixton
- Bromley
- Chiswick
- Kilburn
- New Oxford Street
- Tottenham Court Road
- Stoke Newington
Reasons for Closures
Fulham Shore, Franco Manca's parent company, attributed the closures to 'disproportionately high' UK taxes and a lack of business rates relief. The affected sites were deemed 'no longer sustainable'. The CVA allows the company to repay creditors over a fixed period while continuing to trade.
Impact on Other Brands
Fulham Shore also owns The Real Greek, which was placed into administration but later rescued by Karali Group, owner of Côte Brasserie. Marcel Khan, CEO of Fulham Shore, expressed gratitude for creditor support and stated the agreement will help strengthen the brand's customer offer and performance.
Remaining Branches
Despite the closures, 32 Franco Manca branches will remain open in London, continuing to serve their signature sourdough pizza made from an 18th-century starter.
