Asda Issues Urgent Recall of Children's Toys Over Asbestos Concerns
Supermarket giant Asda has launched an immediate recall of two popular children's toy lines due to fears they may contain traces of asbestos. The urgent safety alert affects the Stretcherz 'Stretch' and 'Slammers' figures, which were sold in stores between January 2024 and February 2026.
Potential Contaminant Identified in Toy Components
Company officials confirmed that testing revealed a sand-like material inside some of the toys may contain trace levels of asbestos. While Asda emphasized that no reports of harm have been received, the retailer is proceeding with what it describes as "an abundance of caution" in removing the products from circulation.
An Asda spokesperson stated: "Testing has shown that the sand-like material inside some of these products may contain trace levels of asbestos. The overall risk is considered low, but because asbestos shouldn't be present in any amount, we are recalling the affected items as a precaution."
Specific Products and Return Instructions
The recall specifically targets products bearing the barcode numbers 5050837662419 and 5050835105345. Customers who purchased these toys are strongly advised to immediately stop using them and return the items to the store where they were bought to receive a full refund.
"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused," the spokesperson added. "Customers are advised to stop using the affected products immediately and to follow the recall guidance available via our customer service channels."
Safety Commitment and Consumer Protection
Asda emphasized that this recall action aligns with their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. The company acknowledged that "asbestos should not be present in any amount" in consumer products, particularly those designed for children.
Further information about the recall can be obtained by contacting Asda's customer services department directly. The supermarket chain has established dedicated channels to assist concerned customers and provide additional guidance regarding the safety notice.
This precautionary measure highlights ongoing concerns about product safety standards in the retail sector and underscores the importance of rigorous quality control processes for children's toys and consumer goods.
