In a significant move within the luxury property sector, Hollywood icons Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have dramatically reduced the asking price for their prestigious New York mansion. The celebrity couple has slashed $2.25 million from the original listing, bringing the current price down to $9.75 million after the property failed to sell over a two-year period.
A Property of Grand Proportions
The magnificent estate, located in Irvington within Westchester County's exclusive Matthiessen Park, represents Hudson River grandeur at its finest. Originally listed two years ago for $12 million, this eight-bedroom, eleven-and-a-half bathroom property spans an impressive 11,600 square feet across twelve lush acres. Known as Longmeadow, the 1920s-era riverfront home combines historical elegance with modern luxury.
Price Fluctuations and Market Challenges
According to property reports, the listing experienced several adjustments before settling at the current $9.75 million price point. The property was initially removed from the market in April 2025, then reappeared with a $10 million asking price before being taken off again. It finally returned to listings on March 19 with the reduced $9.75 million valuation, reflecting the challenges even celebrity-owned properties face in today's luxury real estate market.
Architectural Splendor and Modern Amenities
Despite its historical 1920s origins, the mansion has undergone substantial renovations since the couple purchased it in 2019. The white-columned facade gives way to interior spaces that include a two-story library, indoor swimming pool, comprehensive fitness room, games room, and formal living and dining areas. A distinctive loggia on the first floor opens onto a 100-foot terrace offering breathtaking Hudson River views.
Additional property features include a summer house, secondary kitchen and dining area, guest quarters, dressing rooms, and garage parking for at least four vehicles. Real estate broker David Turner of Compass, who specializes in Westchester luxury properties, notes that while modernized, the home retains its historical character and architectural integrity.
Downsizing and Lifestyle Changes
The decision to sell aligns with the couple's changing family dynamics. Catherine Zeta-Jones previously explained to the Wall Street Journal that their move from a 15,000-square-foot Bedford mansion to this property represented a downsizing effort after their children reached adulthood. Their son Dylan is now 25, while daughter Carys is 23. Michael Douglas also has a 47-year-old son, Cameron, from his first marriage.
"When I purchased our Irvington home I knew our family would share many happy times here, and we have!" Catherine stated. "Now that both our son and daughter have left the nest it seems like the right time to sell."
Future Plans and Property Portfolio
The couple plans to increase their time spent in Bermuda and Europe, with Catherine's acting career increasingly taking her outside the United States. In a 2025 interview with The Times, the actress revealed she owns four properties total, including another New York residence along with homes in Canada and Spain. "I love to surround myself with beauty but it's not excessive, it's very comfortable," she remarked about her property investments.
Currently, Catherine stars as Morticia Addams in Netflix's hit series "Wednesday," while Michael recently appeared alongside son Cameron in the fishing drama "Looking Through Water"—potentially his final film role before retirement. Their Irvington estate sale represents not just a property transaction, but a significant lifestyle transition for one of Hollywood's most enduring power couples.
