London Heatwave to End Next Week: Temperatures to Drop to 22C

London's heatwave will persist until next week, according to BBC forecasters. On Monday, June 1, thermometers are expected to dip to 22°C with rain, marking the first relief since record-breaking temperatures of 35°C made this weekend the hottest May day on record.

More records could be broken on Tuesday after the UK experienced its hottest May day ever. The expected high for large parts of southern England and Wales on Tuesday is 35°C, potentially reaching 36°C, said senior Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell.

Temperatures will start to gradually decline from the middle of the week, but it will remain largely dry with sunny spells. Many areas will still experience highs in the upper 20s°C.

The searing heat is due to "the influence of warmth building under an area of high pressure near the UK," said Met Office chief operational meteorologist Dan Suri. Heat haters will have to endure another week of pain, including a 35°C day on Tuesday, May 26.

There will also be a 'very high' pollen count today, making conditions particularly uncomfortable for hay fever sufferers. However, as temperatures dip, conditions will slowly return to normal. The BBC even forecasts thunder for Friday, June 5.
