This January, a London garden centre is offering a novel way to beat the winter blues by combining creativity with classic indulgence. Dobbies Garden Centres has unveiled its brand-new Crafternoon Tea Club, launching at the Woodcote Green store for a special weekend event.
A Creative Escape with Cake
The event is designed as a cosy, mindful retreat from the busy start to the year. It takes place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 January, offering a 90-minute session that blends a hands-on craft activity with a traditional afternoon tea. The initiative aims to encourage relaxation, creativity, and social connection in a single, delightful package.
During the workshop, attendees will receive a beginner-friendly punch needle kit featuring a wildlife design. All necessary materials are provided, making it accessible for both complete novices and those looking to refine their skills. As guests craft, a delicious three-tier afternoon tea will be served directly to them.
What's on the Menu?
The culinary offering is a highlight in itself. The savoury first tier presents a selection of finger sandwiches, including fillings such as soft cheese and cucumber, ham with rocket and red onion chutney, prawn, and egg and watercress. The second tier is dedicated to Dobbies’ famous scones, available in plain and fruit varieties, accompanied by Cornish clotted cream and jam.
To finish, the top tier offers a range of sweet treats: a mini Victoria sponge, lemon mousse, meringue kisses, and coconut and cherry macaroons. A pot of tea or coffee with unlimited refills is included. For those seeking extra indulgence, upgrades are available:
- A savoury sharing plate with chicken terrine, houmous and olives, and smoked salmon for £8.50.
- Speciality hot drinks or a luxurious hot chocolate for an additional £0.50.
- A 200ml bottle of Prosecco for £6.50 (for adults 18+).
More Than Just an Afternoon Out
Ayesha Nickson, Events Programme Manager at Dobbies, explained the thinking behind the event. "This brand-new Crafternoon Tea Club at our Woodcote Green store is aimed at bringing people together to slow down and get creative," she said. "We’ve designed the workshop to be a relaxing, beginner-friendly experience, and it’s a great way to spend time with friends and family members."
She also highlighted that the experience makes for a perfect last-minute gift idea for those seeking an alternative to material presents. The event represents a growing trend towards experience-based gifting and activities focused on wellbeing and mindfulness.
