South London's Beloved Mamma Dough Pizzeria Closes Sydenham Branch
Mamma Dough Sydenham Closes Due to Rising Costs

A cherished neighbourhood pizzeria in South London has served its final slice, becoming the latest casualty of the ongoing cost-of-doing-business crisis.

End of an Era for Sydenham's Italian Heart

Mamma Dough, the beloved Italian eatery inspired by the cooking of Italian grandmothers, or 'nonnas', has closed its doors in Sydenham for good. The restaurant, which had been a fixture in the community since 2018, announced the "difficult decision" was driven by relentless rising costs that made the site financially unviable.

The chain, known for its home-cooked style and dedication to community, fell into administration in December 2022 before being rescued by London Dough Co. Despite this lifeline, the economic pressures on the Sydenham branch proved insurmountable.

A Heartfelt Farewell to the Community

In an emotional statement, a spokesperson for the venue expressed profound gratitude to the local area. "After much thought, we have made the difficult decision to close our Sydenham Mamma Dough," they said. "We have truly loved being part of the local community and serving so many of you over the years."

The statement emphasised that all members of the Sydenham team have been retained within the wider business, a point of pride for the independent operator. Thanks were also extended to loyal customers, the landlord, and the dedicated staff for their unwavering support.

Where to Find Mamma Dough Now

While the Sydenham chapter has ended, Londoners can still enjoy Mamma Dough's offerings. The company has reassured fans that its other London restaurants in Brixton, Ladywell, and South Norwood remain open and operational. Delivery services from these locations also continue.

The closure highlights the intense challenges facing the hospitality sector across the capital, where independent venues grapple with soaring energy bills, ingredient prices, and other operational expenses.
