Historic Twickenham Pub Reopens After Major £170,000 Refurbishment
The Eel Pie, a cherished pub in the heart of Twickenham, has just completed a significant £170,000 makeover, perfectly timed for the upcoming 2026 Six Nations Championship. This popular venue, owned by the family brewer and pub company Hall & Woodhouse, has long been a favourite among rugby enthusiasts and local residents alike. The extensive renovation has revitalised the pub's interior and exterior, ensuring it remains a top destination for match days and community gatherings.
A Fresh Look for a Beloved Local Institution
Located conveniently close to Twickenham Stadium, The Eel Pie is renowned as a prime spot for pre- and post-match celebrations. Beyond rugby fixtures, it serves as a welcoming after-work and weekend retreat for many in the area. The refurbishment has carefully preserved the pub's distinctive character and charm while introducing modern enhancements. Notably, the Music Room at the rear has been reconfigured to create a warmer, more inviting dining space that can also be booked privately for special occasions and celebrations.
Mark James, Director of Property at Hall & Woodhouse, commented on the transformation. "The Eel Pie is a fantastic pub in the heart of Twickenham that welcomes rugby fans, families, groups celebrating, and tourists throughout the year," he said. "The new look has been designed to reflect this pub's chameleon nature. Our snug lounge area invites walkers to come in and warm up with a coffee, while the Music Room is a fabulous space for diners. When the game is on, the whole place comes alive with feel-good energy and anticipation."
Enhanced Features for Rugby Fans and Music Lovers
The renovation includes several upgrades specifically aimed at enhancing the match-day experience. A number of smaller TV screens have been installed into booth seating, offering an intimate and comfortable way to enjoy live sports. Outside, the courtyard garden has been reimagined as a covered and comfortable space, allowing major sporting fixtures to be shown outdoors and extending the vibrant match-day atmosphere beyond the pub's walls.
Adding a unique artistic touch, two bespoke murals have been hand-painted on the garden walls by independent artist Rachael Presky. The first mural celebrates Twickenham as the home of English Women's rugby, highlighting the recent successes of the Red Roses. The second mural draws inspiration from the nearby Eel Pie Island's rich musical heritage, featuring references to legendary acts like The Rolling Stones and David Bowie who performed there in the past.
Positive Feedback and Future Outlook
Jon Moran, General Manager of The Eel Pie, expressed his pride in the pub's new appearance. "I'm so proud of the new-look of The Eel Pie. The feedback we have received from our guests so far has been really positive," he stated. "We're still the same team, in the same pub, serving the same pints, but our fresh look makes this pub even more special. My team and I look forward to welcoming back our loyal guests and meeting some new faces, now that we have reopened our doors."
The Eel Pie is now open with the following hours:
