More than 200 homes in Croydon have been left without electricity following an incident where thieves damaged critical power network equipment. The outage, which began in the early hours of Friday morning, has impacted approximately 236 customers in the SE25 6 postcode area, according to network operator UK Power Networks.

Engineers were dispatched to the Prince Road area early on Friday to investigate the fault and initiate repairs. In an update to residents, UK Power Networks confirmed that the disruption was caused by "third-party theft" targeting its infrastructure, which has complicated the repair process. A spokesperson explained that while engineers are on-site working to restore electricity, they require access to individual properties to complete the work safely.
The outage started around 4:50 AM, with some homes having their power restored remotely by control room engineers. However, many properties remain without electricity as the fault is being addressed.
