Piper Rockelle, a former child star and teen influencer, has made headlines for her transition to OnlyFans at the age of 18. In a recent TikTok video, she candidly discussed why she is so popular on the platform: 'Honestly, the answer is kind of gross. It's because I look so young. I mean, I am really young. I'm literally like fresh turned 18 ... and people kind of like that, unfortunately.'
Rockelle began her career as a child, winning beauty pageants at age three. By eight, her mother uploaded cheerful YouTube clips of her dancing and making slime, which became hugely popular. Her mother moved the family to Los Angeles when Rockelle was 10, homeschooling her and forming 'the Squad,' a group of preteen children who created semi-scripted lifestyle content. This content was massive on YouTube, building a fanbase of millions on TikTok and Instagram, making her the biggest kidfluencer of the 2010s.
However, in 2022, 11 members of the Squad filed a lawsuit against Rockelle's mother, Tiffany Smith, and her then-boyfriend Hunter Hill, alleging abuse and exploitation. YouTube demonetized her channel, costing her hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly. The lawsuit ended in October 2024 with a $1.85 million out-of-court settlement. Smith and Hill denied the allegations and did not admit liability. Rockelle lost friends, income, and decided to join OnlyFans when she turned 18.
OnlyFans Success and Earnings
Rockelle claims she earned $2.9 million within her first 24 hours on OnlyFans. Her business manager estimates she will earn over $40 million in her first year. While these figures are difficult to verify, OnlyFans' CEO stated the platform has paid $25 billion to creators since 2016. Rockelle is in the top 0.012% of earners on the site.
Rockelle's content on OnlyFans includes bikini and lingerie shots, often posing in a teenager's bedroom with stuffed animals and fairy lights. She says she does not post nude content, but subscribers receive messages offering explicit material for additional fees. This bait-and-switch tactic is common on the platform, where creators often outsource messaging to 'chatters' in lower-wage countries.
The Stigma and Reality
Rockelle acknowledges the stigma associated with OnlyFans. She says, 'People are not going to want to necessarily be your friend. Or they're going to be ashamed to be around you, even if you're the best person in the entire world.' She has been turned away from volunteering at a vet's surgery and had her bank account closed due to her earnings source. Despite this, she feels responsible for taking care of her family, paying off her grandmother's house and buying her a car.
Rockelle is aware that many of her fans are older men. 'Of course,' she says. 'But it's not my fault that I have a kid-like appearance.' She plays up this theme online, filming interviews with an older man described as her biggest spender. This may be scripted 'rage bait' to generate views.
Broader Implications
Rockelle's story reflects broader societal issues. The UK has introduced age-verification measures for online pornography and passed legislation criminalizing 'barely legal' content where adults role-play as children. Activists in the US have launched the #EndTeenPorn campaign, calling for a ban on teen pornography and raising the minimum age for performers to 21.
OnlyFans states it has robust policies to ensure all users are over 18 and moderates content to prevent illegal underage role-playing. However, experts warn that 'barely legal' content can normalize sexual interactions with under-18s. Vicky Young of the Lucy Faithfull Foundation says, 'Any content that sexualises children and childhood can normalise sexual interactions with under-18s. This is dangerous, even if the actors are over 18.'
Rockelle's Perspective
Rockelle is thoughtful about the unfairness of women being disgraced for producing content that men buy. 'Boys pretend like they don't watch stuff like that. But, like, come on. The girls get a lot of shame for doing it – but we're doing it because of these men. So who is a bad person at the end of the day?'
She talks about the loneliness of her work but says she is 'happily lonely.' She also speaks about God and how she feels she wouldn't be allowed in church due to her OnlyFans work. Despite the challenges, she says she is living her dream life and none of her family pushed her into this work.
Rockelle's transition to adult content has made her one of the biggest OnlyFans earners worldwide. However, her story raises questions about the sexualization of young women, the exploitation of teens in social media, and the normalization of adult content. As she puts it, 'There's a prime in someone's life – 18 through 25 or 30 – and this is a prime year for me. Unfortunately, if you're an older person, you're more likely to look at a 21-year-old than a 45-year-old. I'm scared of getting old.'
