Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, announced on Thursday that it has raised $65 billion in a new funding round, valuing the company at $965 billion post-money. The White House recently eased its feud with Anthropic after the company withheld its latest Mythos model over cybersecurity concerns, sparking a small-scale geopolitical crisis. US Vice President JD Vance subsequently called on AI companies to cooperate. Anthropic is also expected to be an influential force in the US midterm elections, pouring millions into lobbying and Super Pacs to support candidates and legislation aligned with its views on AI regulation. The firm has called for more government oversight, breaking with other tech leaders like OpenAI that advocate for a laxer regulatory framework.
