An index of US small business optimism fell in May to the lowest level since October 2024, erasing almost all gains seen since President Donald Trump was elected for a second term, according to Bloomberg.
Small Business Optimism Declines
The National Federation of Independent Business optimism index dropped 0.6 points to 95.3, based on data released last week. The measure had previously reached a six-year high in December 2024 following Trump's re-election.
Key Concerns for Business Owners
Top concerns among small business owners include taxes, inflation, and labor costs. Additionally, 29% of respondents reported difficulty filling job vacancies.
