Resident Evil Hits 23 Million Sales as Devil May Cry 6 Rumors Swirl
Resident Evil 23 Million Sales, Devil May Cry 6 Hints

Capcom has unveiled updated sales figures for its major franchises, highlighting remarkable achievements for Resident Evil and Devil May Cry 5. The company is poised for a standout 2026 with titles like Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword.

Resident Evil Dominates Sales Charts

Resident Evil Requiem has become the fastest-selling entry in the series' history, while Pragmata, a new intellectual property, surpassed two million copies in just 16 days. However, Capcom's older titles continue to drive impressive numbers.

Ahead of a shareholders meeting, Capcom updated its game sales data for the fiscal year ending March 2026. The Resident Evil franchise collectively sold 23 million copies over the past year, comprising:

  • Resident Evil Requiem: 6.9 million
  • Resident Evil 7: 2.6 million
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake: 2.9 million
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake: 3.4 million
  • Resident Evil Village: 3.6 million
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake: 3.6 million

For context, the entire Silent Hill franchise has sold only 17.1 million copies in total, underscoring Resident Evil's dominance in the survival horror genre.

Devil May Cry 5 Achieves Record Sales

Devil May Cry 5, released in 2019, sold 2.7 million copies in fiscal 2026, its highest annual sales ever. This surpasses its launch-year performance of 2.1 million and a similar figure in 2023. Total sales for the game now stand at 12.9 million copies.

The sales surge is likely attributed to the Netflix animated series and strategic discounts. Additionally, a Switch 2 version of Devil May Cry 5 is scheduled for June 23, which could further boost sales via Nintendo's platform.

Implications for Devil May Cry 6

The sustained success of Devil May Cry 5 virtually guarantees a sixth installment. However, development delays may stem from the departure of longtime director Hideaki Itsuno in 2024. Itsuno helmed all mainline Devil May Cry games since Devil May Cry 2 in 2003, and Capcom has reportedly struggled to find a replacement.

Industry speculation suggests a new Devil May Cry announcement could occur in 2027 or at The Game Awards in December. Meanwhile, Capcom has other projects lined up for next year, including Resident Evil Veronica, Mega Man: Dual Override, and Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. Rumors also persist about a new Ace Attorney game and a successor to Ōkami, though the latter may be further off given its low-key reveal.
