Svetlana Grković has spoken out about the terrifying moment her husband, Ljubisa Karović, was almost sucked out of a Ryanair plane through a dislodged cabin window. The incident occurred last week on a flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Dusseldorf, Germany. Karović, 61, was sitting by the window when a loud bang was heard, and the window suddenly came loose. Grković described seeing her husband being pulled toward the opening, with his body partially ejected from the aircraft.
Immediate Aftermath and Injuries
Karović sustained severe neck and arm injuries and is currently being treated in a hospital in Thessaloniki. Grković stated, 'If we die, we die together,' as she clung to her husband to prevent him from being fully sucked out. The cabin crew and other passengers helped to secure Karović and stabilize the situation until the plane could land safely.
Ryanair's Response and Investigation
Ryanair has confirmed the incident and stated that they are cooperating with aviation authorities to investigate the cause of the window failure. The airline expressed concern for Karović and his family, emphasizing that safety is their top priority. The flight made an emergency landing back in Thessaloniki, where Karović was immediately taken to the hospital.
Broader Implications for Airline Safety
This incident raises serious questions about aircraft maintenance and passenger safety. Aviation experts are calling for a thorough investigation to determine whether this was a manufacturing defect, a maintenance oversight, or an isolated event. Passengers on the flight have reported feeling extreme fear and relief that the situation did not escalate further. The airline industry is closely watching as regulators review safety protocols.
