Nintendo has officially announced a new Star Fox game for the Switch 2, confirming earlier rumours of a traditional entry in the series. The game is a remake of Star Fox 64 (also known as Lylat Wars) and is priced at £41.99 digitally, with a physical version yet to be listed. It launches on June 25 and includes new cinematics, co-op mode, mouse controls, a challenge mode, and online 4v4 multiplayer.
Rumours Proven Accurate
The announcement validates leaks from insider NateTheHate, who correctly predicted the summer release window. His other claims, including Splatoon Raiders and Rhythm Paradise Groove receiving summer dates, have also come true. This has boosted credibility for his remaining rumours: a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for late 2026, a new 3D Super Mario game for 2027, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave as a summer release, a Nintendo Switch Sports title, a Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition, and The Duskbloods from FromSoftware targeting late 2026.
Additional Leaks
Other sources have added to the speculation. YouTuber Malo932 predicted a Super Metroid remake, a new Wario Land for 2027, and a larger Star Fox adventure for 2026. Another leaker, Poro Michele, mentioned Mario Kart World DLC for 2027 and a new Metroid game from MercurySteam. While unconfirmed, the consistency among sources suggests these rumours may hold weight.
Star Fox Movie and More
Beyond games, movie insider Daniel Richtman claims Nintendo and Illumination are developing a Star Fox film. A Princess Peach movie is also rumoured, based on a LinkedIn profile mentioning an 'Untitled P P movie'. Additionally, a long-rumoured Donkey Kong spin-off is believed to be in the works.
Nintendo has partnered with Japanese company Sanei for Star Fox plush toys, releasing in June at 3,300 yen (about £15.49), though currently only confirmed for Japan.
