The Smart #2 is poised to become the United Kingdom's smallest electric vehicle when it launches next year, measuring less than three metres in length. With a range of 186 miles, this compact car is designed for urban mobility.
A Reinvention of a Classic
First introduced in the late 1990s, the original Smart car was roughly half the length of a standard vehicle. The fourth-generation model of the Fortwo line promises to be even more diminutive, offering what the company calls 'uncompromised urban capability.'
Wolfgang Ufer, chief executive of Smart Europe, described the new car as a 'reinvention' of the brand's iconic original. 'The Concept #2 combines the creativity and passion of our Mercedes-Benz design team and provides a clear vision of the future qualities of the smart #2,' he said. 'It is a vehicle shaped by the way European smart customers truly live and move – effortless, agile, and efficient.'
Dimensions and Classification
At under 2.8 metres in length, the Smart #2 is larger than the Citroen Ami or Microlino 'bubble car,' but those are officially classified as electric quadricycles. Despite its compact size, the new Smart vehicle is expected to deliver a range of up to 186 miles (300 kilometres).
Charging Capabilities
One of the standout features is its rapid charging capability. The Smart #2 can go from 10% to 80% power in under 20 minutes, making it highly convenient for city dwellers. Speed statistics have not yet been announced.
The concept car made its motor show debut in China, and a production version will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2026 later this year. This launch marks a significant step in the evolution of electric urban mobility, offering a practical and efficient solution for navigating crowded city streets.
