A tragic plane crash at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, South Australia, has left two people dead and a dozen others injured. The incident occurred when a light aircraft smashed into an airport hangar, sparking a massive fire that sent plumes of thick smoke visible for miles.
Details of the Crash
The accident took place at approximately 2:10 PM local time (4:30 AM GMT). The pilot and a single passenger were killed upon impact, succumbing to their injuries at the scene. Emergency services rushed to the airfield, which is surrounded by residential areas, after reports of a plane hitting the hangar and causing a large fire.
Injuries and Rescue Efforts
Around 11 workers inside the hangar sustained wounds and were transported to the hospital with serious burns, according to 7news. Student pilots were among those rescued from the building. Authorities fear the number of casualties may rise as they are still determining how many people were inside the plane and the hangar at the time of the crash.
Witness Accounts
John Swanell, who was driving by the airfield, witnessed the plane nosedive. He told ABC Australia: 'The pitch that it took, you could hear it struggle then straight down. I just heard the crash, it just happened all so quick.' He described the scene turning 'so black' within minutes as smoke billowed from the wrecked building.
