A small aircraft crashed into Beijing's iconic CITIC Tower, known as the China Zun, the city's tallest skyscraper at 109 storeys. The plane broke apart on impact, with wreckage plummeting to the ground. According to footage on social media, the skyscraper sustained minimal damage, with two windows smashed. Police evacuated the building before the crash, which occurred around 6pm local time on June 26, 2026.
Aircraft identified and debris scattered
Local outlets identified the plane as a B-12PP. The entire tail section was found lying on the road, and smoke rose from smouldering debris. The pilot was reportedly flying solo, and it is not yet clear if there are any casualties. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
Flight path deviation and loss of contact
According to Global.hk, the plane deviated from its flight path after taking off from Shifosi Airport half an hour earlier. It was scheduled to turn around and return to the airport at 5.45pm, but flight monitoring lost tracking signal near Beijing's East Fifth Ring Road. Attempts to contact the aircraft failed, and moments later it struck the skyscraper.
