A pilot from Ravenair used a test flight to skywrite the phrase 'I'm bored' over the Dee estuary in north-west England, with the message captured on the flight-tracking website Flightradar24.
Flight details and skywriting
According to Flightradar24 data, the plane, a Piper Tomahawk, departed from Liverpool at 11:25am on Saturday. During a two-hour journey, it flew over the Wirral, Cheshire, north Wales, and the Dee estuary. The pilot spent 20 minutes tracing the seven-letter phrase in tight, angular loops over the water between Talacre and Greenfield at an altitude of about 335 metres (1,100ft) and speeds just under 100 knots.
Reaction from the airline
Wayne Barrett, Ravenair's operations manager, told the BBC that the pilot, a flying instructor in his 20s, was conducting a test flight after a cylinder replacement. 'I think the pilot was literally a bit bored, as it was just a test flight. Mind you, it was pretty skilful flying,' Barrett said. He confirmed the pilot would not face repercussions, adding, 'He's not in trouble but we have had a lot of attention from it. The plane is now safely back in the hangar and the pilot is on his day off.'
Blogger's observation
Aaron Rheins, a flight tracking blogger on TikTok, commented, 'I've never seen a pilot saying he's bored by writing it in the sky.' Barrett noted that despite the message, the pilot must have been highly focused: 'He was a bit bored but he probably had to concentrate a lot in the end to spell out the words so he was probably anything but.'
