Emergency services were called to Chadwell Heath station shortly after 8pm yesterday (August 13) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The injured person was declared dead at the scene, and their age and gender have not been released by the British Transport Police.
Incident at Chadwell Heath Station
The force is not treating the incident as suspicious and will prepare a coroner's file ahead of an inquest. Photos taken last night show a number of police cars, ambulances, and fire engines outside the busy commuter station. The London Ambulance Service also sent a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance.
Rail Service Suspended and Roads Sealed Off
Rail service was suspended between Whitechapel and Shenfield as crews responded to the scene. Officers also sealed off the adjacent Station Road, diverting two bus routes for just over an hour.
Emergency Response Details
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8:03pm yesterday (13 August) to reports of a person hit by a train at Chadwell Heath Station, RM6. We sent resources including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
The incident caused significant disruption to evening commuters on the Elizabeth line, with services halted for several hours. The British Transport Police will now prepare a file for the coroner, and an inquest will be held in due course.
