Three people escaped uninjured after a Cessna 402B made an emergency water landing off the coast of Haiti, forcing the pilot and two passengers to swim to shore. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 10, 2026, shortly before midday, when the twin-engine turboprop, registration HI-1056, came down near Lafiteau while operating ZED Airlines flight 6502.
Details of the Emergency Landing
The aircraft was on a scheduled domestic flight from Cap-Haitien to the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. According to a spokesperson for ZED Airlines, the pilot executed a water landing after encountering difficulties. Footage from the scene shows the plane floating in the water close to Ibo Beach, with the occupants wading through the shallows to reach the shore. Local responders provided assistance, and all three survivors are reported to be in stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Aviation authorities and the airline’s technical team have launched a full inquiry into the incident. No initial details have been released regarding a possible mechanical failure. The 1972-built aircraft’s condition is still being assessed. ZED Airlines stated that passenger and crew safety is its absolute priority and expressed relief that no one died, attributing the successful outcome to the pilot’s expert handling and swift response on the ground. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
