Activision has announced that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will hold two beta tests ahead of its October 23 launch. The first beta, exclusive to pre-order customers on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, runs from Friday, August 21 to Tuesday, August 25. The second open beta, accessible to all players without a pre-order, takes place from Friday, August 28 to Tuesday, September 1.
Pre-order early access beta details
Pre-ordering either the standard edition or the Vault Edition grants access to the early access beta, as well as early campaign access starting October 16. However, Activision specified that only pre-orders for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC include the early access beta. The Switch 2 version is not eligible for early access because its pre-orders do not begin until August 26, one day after the early access beta ends.
Switch 2 beta participation
Switch 2 owners can only join the open beta from August 28 to September 1. No pre-order is required, allowing players to test the game on Nintendo's hardware before committing to a purchase. Activision has not explained the delayed pre-order availability for Switch 2, but it may be due to further development work or coordination with Nintendo. Developer Infinity Ward is not leading the Switch 2 version; that task falls to Activision subsidiary Digital Legends, which previously assisted with Call Of Duty: Warzone Mobile and the last two Black Ops titles.
What's included in the beta
According to the Call Of Duty website, the Modern Warfare 4 beta will feature multiple multiplayer maps and modes, a wide selection of brand-new operators, and up to 19 weapons available to unlock. Activision promises both new and returning modes, including Search & Destroy, a training mobility course, and Kill Block, an original mode where the battlefield layout changes every match. Players who pre-order the Vault Edition can use eight exclusive operators, weapons, and blueprints from the Signature Weapon Collection.
Call Of Duty movie update
During a recent Call Of Duty panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, director and co-writer Peter Berg confirmed that the official Call Of Duty movie, scheduled for release on June 30, 2028 by Paramount, will be set in the Modern Warfare continuity. It remains unclear if the film will be based on a specific game or feature an original story.
