Manchester United have agreed a fresh loan deal with Trabzonspor for goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was signed for £47 million from Inter Milan three years ago. The Cameroon international was loaned to the Turkish side last summer after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and is now set to return for a second season-long stint.
Onana's return to Trabzonspor
The previous loan deal expired at the end of the season, and Onana was scheduled to report for pre-season training at Carrington next month despite being told he would not be part of Michael Carrick's plans. Talks have now concluded with Onana on the brink of rejoining Trabzonspor. United will receive a loan fee, though the deal does not include an option to buy, according to sources.
Onana made 33 appearances for Trabzonspor last season, helping them win the Turkish Cup. Despite earlier reports that he hoped to fight for his place at United, there has been no prospect of regular playing time.
United's goalkeeping situation
The former Ajax star was brought in as the long-term successor to David de Gea, but that role now belongs to Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp last summer and enjoyed a superb first Premier League season. United are also seeking a backup goalkeeper, as last season's No. 2 Altay Bayindir is expected to leave.
Leeds United's Karl Darlow and Wolves' Sam Johnstone, a former United youth product, have been linked. Also on the radar is Scotland international Angus Gunn, available on a free transfer after one year at Nottingham Forest. Additionally, highly-rated Radek Vitek returns from a successful loan at Bristol City but is likely to leave for first-team football, with newly-promoted Hull City interested.
