Early access details

The premium edition of Halo: Campaign Evolved, available only digitally for £69.99, grants up to five days of early access, allowing play from Thursday, July 23. This edition also includes an Alpha Halo Armory Pack (five Master Chief skins and six weapon skins), a digital artbook, and a digital short story titled Halo: Hungry Buzzards.

Multiplayer and co-op features

Halo: Campaign Evolved supports two-player split-screen co-op on consoles and up to four-player online co-op with crossplay and cross-progression. However, as confirmed by developer Halo Studios, the game does not include competitive multiplayer modes. The original Halo featured split-screen and LAN multiplayer, while the 2011 remaster Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary added online multiplayer across all versions. Executive producer Damon Conn explained the decision: 'We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo. Starting here means people that have never played the game before will be able to understand the story from the very beginning, and that can help us chart a course forward with new Halo stories.' He added, 'Focusing on the campaign experience means we can concentrate fully on really capturing the atmosphere, tone – the emotional impact of what made the first campaign so special and iconic.' A Q&A on the PlayStation Store listing confirms that only co-op multiplayer tied to the campaign will be offered.

Future of Halo

Microsoft has not officially announced the next Halo title, but Halo Studios confirmed in 2024 that multiple Halo games are in development using Unreal Engine 5, with Halo: Campaign Evolved being one of them. A successor to Halo Infinite is likely among the projects, though recent Xbox layoffs have cast uncertainty on its release timeline.
