A German tourist has died after a snake crawled into his trousers and bit him during a snake-charming show in Egypt, according to German police. The 57-year-old man was on a family holiday in Hurghada, a popular Red Sea resort, in early April when the incident occurred.
Details of the Incident
Police in southern Bavaria stated that the man was watching a snake-charming performance at a hotel. Two snakes, believed to be cobras, were draped over the necks of audience members. The snake charmer then allowed one of the reptiles to crawl into the man's trousers, resulting in a bite to his leg.
The victim exhibited clear signs of poisoning and required resuscitation before being transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to the venom. He was a resident of the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria and was accompanied by two relatives during the holiday.
Investigation Underway
German police and prosecutors are investigating the death and are awaiting toxicology test results. Egyptian authorities, when contacted by Agence France-Presse, stated they were unaware of the incident. The investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
