Anyone who hasn’t already upgraded to Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S will be able to do so for free, as Rockstar Games reveals the next GTA Online heist. While the world awaits the arrival of GTA 6, Rockstar has provided a reassuring update that the long-awaited sequel is still on track for November 19 this year.
New GTA Online Heist Announced
On Wednesday, the developer announced a new GTA Online update in the form of The Kortz Center Heist. This new update, which rolls out in July, promises a ‘multi-stage’ heist set within the Kortz Center complex.
Free Upgrade Details
However, beyond this heist, Rockstar had even better news for GTA 5 players still stuck on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Starting from tomorrow, you can upgrade to the enhanced PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S versions for free if you own the appropriate console. There is one caveat for Xbox players: while Rockstar states those who own ‘any PlayStation 4 version’ will be entitled to the upgrade on PlayStation 5 (which presumably includes physical copies), only those with a digital copy on Xbox One will receive the free upgrade.
This freebie applies to PC players too. From tomorrow, anyone with the GTA 5 Legacy edition can upgrade to the Enhanced version at no extra cost.

The enhanced version of GTA 5 boasts performance and graphical improvements, along with new features like Hao’s Special Works for vehicle upgrades. Additionally, you can migrate your story mode and online progress over to the new version by following these steps.
GTA 5 History
GTA 5 originally launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. It was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, arrived on PC in 2015, before it received a new version for current-gen consoles in March 2022.
Rockstar hasn’t exactly been generous in offering cheaper upgrades between versions over the years (you previously just had to buy new versions outright, even if you owned it on a prior console), so this is a welcome slice of generosity after 13 years.
If anything, it’s perhaps a reassuring sign Rockstar is preparing to start the marketing rollout for GTA 6, as it pivots focus from its predecessor. Although GTA 6 is out on consoles this year, a PC version has not yet been announced and probably won’t arrive until spring 2027 at the earliest.
