FA reviews security after man enters England media centre with wrench

The Football Association (FA) will review its security protocols after a man entered England's World Cup media centre in Kansas City carrying a wrench. The incident occurred on Thursday while the England squad was training at Swope Soccer Village, located about half a mile from the media centre housed in a community building.

Security incident details

The man, who appeared to be in distress, walked into the media centre with the wrench. He was quickly ushered out of the room and handed over to local police. No members of the England playing or coaching staff were on the scene at the time. The FA has confirmed it will conduct a review of the incident to prevent future occurrences.

England's World Cup progress

Thomas Tuchel's side reached the quarter-finals after a thrilling victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium early Monday morning. They are now preparing for Saturday's quarter-final against Norway, which kicks off at 10pm BST. The team will fly from the Midwest to Miami on the eve of the match.

Injury and suspension concerns

England will be without defender Jarell Quansah for the Norway match and the semi-final if they advance, following FIFA's confirmation of a two-match ban for the red card he received against Mexico. Marc Guehi is also a doubt with a hamstring issue. Declan Rice missed two days of training due to illness, compounding his existing lower back and hamstring problems. Bukayo Saka, managing an Achilles issue sustained in March, stated, 'I think across the tournament, my minutes have been building. I’m building. Of course, I would have loved to come to this tournament 100 per cent, but that wasn’t the case and everyone’s realised that. They’ve managed me in the best way possible. But right now, I’m feeling great and I’m ready to go.'

Looking ahead

England hope to return to their Kansas City facilities next week if they reach the semi-finals, where they would face Argentina or Switzerland. The FA's security review aims to ensure the safety of all personnel during the remainder of the tournament.
