F1's Youngest Race President: Katharina Nowak on Miami GP's Boom
F1's Youngest Race President on Miami GP's Boom

Katharina Nowak, the newly appointed president of the Miami Grand Prix, is brimming with confidence as she prepares for her first race in charge. At 29, she is the youngest person to hold such a position in Formula One, and one of only two women, alongside Emily Prazer of the Las Vegas GP. Nowak believes the sport's popularity in the United States is only set to grow.

Record-Breaking Ticket Sales

Nowak reports that ticket sales for the Miami GP have exceeded expectations. 'Our renewal numbers were higher than they’ve been in the past years,' she says. 'We’ve been pacing ahead of our targets every single month since we went on sale.' The race, which debuted in 2022, has sold out every year, and 2024 is no different.

The Drive to Survive Effect

Nowak candidly admits she was initially a 'bandwagon fan' drawn to F1 through the Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive. 'I really got an understanding for the sport and respect for the sport while watching it,' she explains. Her journey from casual viewer to race president reflects the changing demographics of F1, with a younger and more diverse audience.

Innovation and Feedback

This year, the Miami circuit has adapted based on fan feedback, including modifying a section of the marina for general admission. Nowak emphasizes that innovation remains key to keeping the event fresh and engaging.

Rivalry with Las Vegas

Despite speculation about a rivalry between Miami and Las Vegas for glamour status, Nowak downplays any tension. 'Credit goes to F1 for allowing each promoter to have their own identity,' she says. 'We’ve got more than enough room for all three US races to succeed and grow.'

Championing Women in Motorsport

Nowak feels a responsibility to support women in the organization and across motorsport. 'There are 250 women that work for Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins, and the Miami Grand Prix,' she notes. 'I feel accountable to support and lift them up, just as others have done for me.'
