A devastating explosion ripped through a fireworks factory in central China on Monday, killing at least 26 people and injuring 61 others, according to state media reports. The blast occurred at a facility operated by the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in the city of Changsha, Hunan province.
Authorities Respond to Tragedy
China's official Xinhua news agency reported that President Xi Jinping has called on local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion. Emergency services swiftly evacuated residents from nearby danger zones to prevent further casualties.
China Daily confirmed that the factory was owned by Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company, a firm specializing in pyrotechnics. The explosion sent shockwaves through the surrounding area, with debris scattered over a wide radius.
Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Rescue teams are working tirelessly at the site, searching for any remaining survivors. The injured have been rushed to local hospitals, some in critical condition. Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased or provided details on the exact cause of the blast.
Fireworks factories in China have a history of accidents due to lax safety standards. In 2019, a similar explosion in Hunan killed several workers. This latest incident underscores ongoing concerns about industrial safety in the region.
