More than 100 firefighters are battling a blaze in Walthamstow tonight, with 20 fire engines at the scene. Residents have reportedly been evacuated after the fire took hold near Vallentin Road and Shernhall Street.
Fire Details and Response
The fire, first reported shortly after 6pm, involves a railway embankment and has spread to several gardens and outbuildings close to the railway line. London Fire Brigade (LFB) received over 100 calls, with the first at 1827. Crews from Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, Chingford, and surrounding stations have been mobilized.
Local MP Stella Creasy said there had been an electrical fire on the train lines. "We have got a major incident in Wood Street," she said. "There is a serious fire with a lot of roads and people being evacuated."

The incident is producing a significant amount of smoke. Residents are advised to close windows and doors. Motorists should avoid Wood Street, Shernhall Street, and surrounding roads due to closures. The Weaver Overground line has been partially closed; TfL service updates are available.
