A James Bond movie has been listed on Amazon Prime for an astonishing £2,000, sparking debate among fans about whether it is a pricing error or a bold marketing strategy. The 1997 film Tomorrow Never Dies, starring Pierce Brosnan as 007, appeared on the platform this morning with a download price of £2,000 for the HD version. However, the Pierce Brosnan Bond Bundle, which includes multiple films, is priced at a far more reasonable £24.99, down from a listed original price of £2,025.97.
Reddit users spot the anomaly
The unusual pricing was quickly noticed by Reddit users, who shared their theories on what had happened. User WeDoingThisAgainRWe commented: 'Seen typos like that before on Amazon. Someone probably thought they were entering a year or the field itself is just mixed up.' Another Redditor, MijMike, agreed: 'It’s clearly a mistake. Look at the price of the film bundle.' Deanereaner added: 'I think someone on Amazon’s end just hit a typo and they haven’t noticed because nobody on earth is trying to buy this movie.'
Fan appreciation for the film
Despite the pricing oddity, the film has a dedicated fan base that considers it one of the most underrated entries in the Bond franchise. On the r/JamesBond subreddit, user T2-95 wrote: 'Tomorrow Never Dies is criminally underrated!' Matuatay echoed the sentiment: 'Tomorrow Never Dies seems to be one of those films that ages better and becomes more relevant as time marches forward. Plus, it’s Jonathan Pryce vs. Pierce Brosnan. HELL yes!' Another user declared: 'It is one of my favourite Bond movies. Great soundtrack, great villains, good pacing… and the best opening scene of any Bond movie ever.'
Critical reception and box office
Critics have not always been as kind. The film holds a 57% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with contemporary reviews calling it too generic. It remains the only Brosnan Bond film that did not open at number one at the box office, largely due to competition from Titanic. However, some critics have reappraised it over time. The AV Club’s Jesse Hassenger praised it as 'an underrated adventure for Pierce Brosnan’s underrated Bond.'
