JD Wetherspoon is opening a new £3.5 million pub at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 2, named The Sir Frank Whittle, set to launch on Tuesday, July 21. The pub, named after the RAF officer who co-created the turbojet engine, will be located just after security and will operate from 4am to 11pm daily, offering travelers a pre-flight dining and drinking option.
Menu and Offerings
The Sir Frank Whittle will serve real ales, traditional ciders, and Wetherspoons staples including full English breakfast, pancakes, gourmet burgers, and fish and chips. This opening is part of a broader expansion plan, with three more airport Wetherspoons slated over the next six months, starting with Manchester Airport in September. Two additional pubs are planned for Barcelona Airport, one in January 2027 and another in November 2027.
Existing Airport Locations
Wetherspoons already operates at Heathrow's Terminal 4 (Star Light) and Terminal 5 (The Crown Rivers), as well as three pubs at Gatwick Airport (one in the North Terminal and two in the South Terminal), and one at Stansted Airport. Stansted's The Windmill has been ranked as one of the best airport restaurants globally. Outside London, Wetherspoons pubs are present at Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh airports. The chain has also expanded to continental Europe, opening a pub at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport in Spain, a key gateway for British tourists heading to Benidorm.
