Marks & Spencer has announced a significant price reduction on dozens of everyday grocery staples as part of a £30 million investment aimed at helping families ‘eat well for less’. The retailer has lowered prices on more than 65 products across its food halls, including salmon fillets, beef mince, eggs, onions, tortilla wraps, tomato ketchup, and frozen chips.
Expansion of Remarksable Value Line
Announcing the move, which expands its Remarksable Value line to 145 products, the supermarket stated: ‘Unlike other value ranges this is not “entry tier” food with reduced quality to make it cheaper, this is the same M&S high quality food with a lower price.’ The price cuts target weekly shop essentials amid increasingly stretched household budgets.
Key Price Reductions
The UK’s favourite fish is among the items listed, with two Caledonian Gold salmon fillets falling from £5.50 to £4.95. The larger family four-pack has also been cut from £10.75 to £9.50. According to independent consumer research cited by M&S, more than two-thirds (68%) of families said they’d eat salmon more often if it were more affordable, while one in five struggle to get enough omega-3 in their diet.

Future Plans and Strategy
More products are expected to be added to the Remarksable Value, Dropped & Locked, and Bigger Pack, Better Value ranges over the coming months, as part of M&S’s wider strategy to double food sales. Despite being voted Britain’s best-loved supermarket for the past five years running, with an overall score of 78% in the latest Which? survey, it scored just two stars in the value for money category, with customers branding it a destination for ‘occasional treats’ as opposed to a full weekly shop.
