M&S opens its biggest Foodhall in Godalming, Surrey
Marks & Spencer has opened its largest ever standalone Foodhall in Godalming, Surrey, on the site of a former Homebase store. The 22,000-square-foot branch is designed with family shoppers in mind, featuring wider fresh produce areas, a dedicated multi-temperature section for herbs and organic produce, a rotisserie chicken counter, and mini shopping trolleys for children.
Remarksable Value expansion
The Godalming store stocks the full Remarksable Value collection, which has doubled in size since 2023 and now includes 29 new everyday staples such as Fruit & Fibre Cereal Flakes, White Bread Finger Rolls, Pork Shoulder Steaks, and Microwavable Rice. M&S emphasizes that these products maintain the same quality, sourcing, ingredients, and welfare standards as its regular range.
Comments from M&S management
Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, said: “We’re doubling our Food business with investment where family customers are asking for it most: bigger, better stores and more trusted value on the products families buy every week. Godalming will be our biggest ever standalone Food store and an example of the kind of modern, full-range Foodhall we’re investing in as we double the size of the business.”
Additional offers and market context
Alongside Remarksable Value, the retailer has launched Dropped & Locked offers and the Bigger Pack, Better Value range. In January, M&S was reported to be the fastest-growing retailer for families in terms of volume and value. However, the supermarket scored only two stars in the money category in Which?’s best-loved supermarket survey in February, indicating a perception as a treat destination rather than a weekly shop.
