London's Best Hotel Lounge for Remote Workers: The London EDITION
London's Best Hotel Lounge for Remote Workers

For remote workers seeking an inspiring change of scenery, The London EDITION hotel in central London offers a surprisingly affordable and luxurious workspace. Tucked behind Oxford Street, this five-star hotel's lobby is open to the public and welcomes laptop users with free WiFi, comfortable seating, and no strict time limits—as long as you order something.

An Unexpected Find

Courtney Pochin, a senior lifestyle reporter, tested the setup last Thursday. Arriving just after 8am, she found two other remote workers already typing away. She settled at a table by the door, enjoying the people-watching while writing articles. The space features marble columns, huge stained-glass windows, and a Grade II-listed Edwardian ceiling with stucco ornamentation—far more inspiring than a typical home office.

The only potential issue is plug sockets: there are only a few, tucked in awkward spots. But arriving early secures a spot near one. Throughout the morning, the bar remained quiet, with hotel guests and a handful of coffee drinkers. At lunchtime, it got busier but never overcrowded, and Pochin never felt pressured to vacate her table.

Food, Drink, and Costs

The rule is simple: order something to stay. The bartender promptly offered drinks. Pochin ordered an English Breakfast tea at £6.50 plus a 13.5% service charge—comparable to Starbucks prices. It came in a china teapot with a shortbread biscuit. For lunch, she left for a cheap meal and returned for a club soda (£5.50) to secure her spot. Her total for a full day: £13.62 including service.

Breakfast is served 7am to 11:30am, with options like croissants (£5), cereal (£7), porridge (from £11), scrambled eggs with salmon caviar (£22), fruit salad (£12), and pancakes with berries (£17). From midday, all-day dining includes a Club Sandwich (£23) with toasted sourdough, chicken, bacon, egg, and avocado, served with fries. The hotel also houses Berners Tavern, a restaurant by chef Jason Atherton.

Verdict: A Productive Day

Pochin found the environment relaxing, with smooth jazz and ambient chatter. She completed her entire to-do list and noted that staff were helpful with WiFi, prompt with drinks, and happy to watch her belongings when she used the restroom. She never felt uncomfortable taking up space as a non-guest. “I can’t recommend a visit to the lobby bar at this hotel enough, and I’ll definitely be heading back next time I need to get out of the house,” she said.
