London is set to enjoy seven days of non-stop sunshine and pleasant warmth, with temperatures hovering comfortably in the late twenties, without returning to last week's intense heat. Today (Wednesday, July 15) promises to be a bright and balmy day, with temperatures peaking at 28°C by late afternoon and remaining above 20°C until midnight.
Thursday Brings the Hottest Day of the Week
Thursday, July 16, will be a cloudier start to the day, with a gentle breeze, before the sun returns with a blast in the middle of the afternoon and the hottest temperatures of the week at around 29°C. This pattern will be repeated on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – all set to be sunny days with peaks of 27°C, 26°C and 25°C respectively without a cloud on the horizon, according to BBC Weather.
Next Week Continues the Fine Spell
The outlook continues into next week, with Monday, July 20, and Tuesday, July 21, both sunny, with temperatures comfortably in the mid-20s. Met Office Meteorologist Clare Nasir said: "This Wednesday morning is yet again a heatwave for many parts of the country. For most, it's a fine morning with strong sunshine... a very warm day, if not a hot one, particularly across central and southern parts of England and Wales. Through the evening, that cloud rolls in from the North Sea so we will see a cloudier start to Thursday across some parts of the country, as temperatures hold across England and Wales – particularly central and southern areas of 17 to 19 degrees – a warm night."
Heatwave Records Surpassed
[Thursday] is the peak of the heat... for the bulk of England and Wales, it's the high 20s or creeping into the 30s." The Met Office said that UK temperatures on Tuesday peaked at 30.4°C at Heathrow in London, making it the 10th day in a row when 30°C has been exceeded somewhere in the country. In June, heatwave temperatures exceeded 30°C for seven consecutive days. There have now been 25 days in 2026 – consecutive and non-consecutive – when 30°C has been exceeded somewhere in the UK: seven in May, eight in June and 10 in July. This surpasses the 24 days of 30°C-plus temperatures in the punishingly hot year of 1976, when drought conditions forced people to use standpipes in the street, hit crops and parched landscapes.
